SUMMARY:Grassroots Struggles for a New Economy: Learning from Greece\, pt.2
DESCRIPTION:The second of a two-part report-back on austerity and grassroots movements in Greece by Larry Haiven and Max Haiven\, who recently visited the country to meet with organizers and activists developing the solidarity economy.\n\nThis presentation explores a number of grassroots movements that are seeking to reinvent economic and social life in Greece. From factory occupations to social centres to solidarity clinics to local economic networks to refugee solidarity initiatives\, Greece is not only a laboratory of austerity\, it is also a laboratory for the commons and new forms of cooperation.\n\n\tWhat lessons can we learn about building and sustaining solidarity amidst crisis?\n\tWhat are the conditions and potentials for such struggles in the context of an (allegedly) left-wing government?\n\tCould such movements be the seeds or sprouts of another society?\n\tHow can they move beyond alleviating the worst effects of the crisis and towards transforming politics and social life as we know it?\n
